Scarecrow time

One of the local villages holds an annual flower festival whereby a whole cast of scarecrows turn up in some hilarious set ups - in gardens, on verges and I've even seen some climbing trees. This is the second year that I've dodged traffic taking photos of these and here are some of my favourites.

Scarecrow season

Do you have just a plain old scarecrow or a tattie bogle or a mommet ?- lots of lovely colloquial names for them.

Tattie Bogles

There are famous scarecrows......Dorothy was looking for him.

Cleaning ladies

Straw stuffed, pumpkin faces, dungarees, floral dresses and a little bit spooky.
I meant to make one for the allotment this year but I never got round to it.

Village characters

They must have had some fun putting these displays together, a real community spirit.
For me, it's a sign that my favourite season - autumn, is on its way.

Birdwatching

One garden had some shop mannequins but I think I prefer the more traditional type.

masquarade

My favourite, a dainty little scarecrow selling her plants at the roadside.

Do you have a scarecrow festival too or did you make one for your allotment?

The little girl is my favourite too, a village not far from us have a Scarecrow Festival every year, I'm sure it causes more road accidents with people craning their necks to spot them.

What a great thing to see so many people get involved in. That girl selling her is the best. No scarecrows around here.

A wonderful community event! Such diversity too on such a traditional idea. I quite like the shop manequinns if a little spooky!

And the little roadside seller really is so sweet.

Thank you for your lovely comments on blog. I am a big wuss when it comes to taking pictures in public. I dont know why always feel a little self concious. Daft really.

They are fabulous - scarecrows freak my little ones out, but I love them.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
