U is for Ugly Duckling

swans and cygnets on the river

A unexpected walk by the river so I only had my camera phone and the zoom, well it's poor quality and grainy but how could I resist showing you.

 U is for Ugly Duckling

Look at them. Eight of them. But they're not fooling me as mum and dad are there. These are of course not ugly ducklings but cute cygnets.

I got chatting to a local walker who was telling me that he had been waiting for their arrival and that last year this pair of swans who have lived on this stretch of river for about eight years, had not had any chicks. So this year is special and hopefully they will all avoid Mr Mink who also lives around here.

I am almost scared to go back and count as I want them all to make it safely to swan adulthood.

Fingers crossed.
